How to make an appointment
Student Health Services is available by appointment only. Same-day appointments are available for acute care needs. We have video telehealth appointments and in-person appointments.
Call 703-993-2831 to schedule
Call during operating hours to schedule an appointment. Call for same-day or acute or urgent concerns. You must call to schedule:
- allergy injections
- immunizations (vaccinations)
- lab tests
- mental health concerns
- physical exams
- TB testing
- travel clinic
- video telehealth appointments

Schedule online
Some appointments are available for scheduling in the Patient Portal.
If you do not see an appointment that meets your needs online, or you have a concern not listed, call.
During initial implementation, online scheduling is only available for:
- Illness and injury (such as cold or flu symptoms, UTI, rash, allergies, headache, body aches or pain, gynecological concerns, stomach pain, etc…)
- Follow-up from a prior visit for the same issue
- Follow-up for gender affirming care, established patients (Fairfax Clinic providers only)
- Routine non-urgent consultation with a healthcare provider (discuss chronic medical condition, medication management, birth control counseling, etc…)
Appointment Basics
- Have your Mason ID or photo ID available.
- Before your appointment, log into the online Patient Portal and complete required forms.
- Be ready 15 minutes before your appointment to allow time to check-in.
- Arrive to the clinic 15 minutes early for your in-person appointment.
- For video telehealth, be ready 15 minutes before your appointment.
- Have a list of your current medications and why you are taking them.
- Your healthcare provider will ask about your current personal and family medical history and any allergies. Not sure? Ask your family prior to your appointment.
- If you are 10 minutes late to your appointment, it may need to be rescheduled. Read more about the No Show Fee for missed appointments.
- If you are under the age of 18, your parent/guardian will need to give written permission (consent) for medical care.
Canceling an Appointment
We understand that sometimes you may need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Contact Student Health to cancel or reschedule an appointment at least 4 hours prior to the appointment time.
There may be a No-Show fee assessed if a patient misses their appointment and/or does not cancel their appointment at least 4 hours before the appointment time.
How to cancel
- Call Student Health at 703-993-2831 to cancel or reschedule during open hours. Call for appointment rescheduling.
- Email shsinfo@gmu.edu to cancel an appointment only.
- Include your name, G#, and date/time of your appointment
- Include the words ‘cancel appointment’ in the subject line
- No additional information is needed in the email
