Flu Shot

One of the best ways to protect yourself and our Mason community is to get your flu shot each year. Student Health Services offers flu shots for students by appointment. Available seasonally, while supplies last.

To help protect the health and well-being of our residential communities, all Mason residential students (students living on-campus/in Mason Housing) are required to get a flu vaccine by December 11, 2020. Residential students must either be vaccinated at a Student Health Services clinic or provide documented proof of vaccination. For more information about this requirement, visit the Flu Vaccine Required for Residential Students webpage.

Schedule your appointment

To get your flu shot with Student Health Services at one of the upcoming flu shot clinics, schedule your appointment online in the Patient Portal.

Student Health has arranged for CVS or Giant Pharmacy to be present at the on-campus flu shot clinics to provide vaccination to students who would like to use their health insurance.  Select the listed clinic below for appointment scheduling with the pharmacy that will be on-site.

If you are not able to attend one of the listed clinics, call the Immunization Office (703-993-2135) during operating hours to schedule your flu shot with Student Health.

Flu shot cost

$30 – students at Student Health Services. Pay fees online through the Mason Marketplace.

I have the university Aetna Student Health Insurance Plan

Students with the Mason Student Health Insurance Plan can get their flu shot for FREE at any Student Health Services clinic; your insurance covers the cost of the flu vaccination at an in-network provider.

I have another health insurance plan

Flu vaccination is no-cost with most health insurance plans when you get your flu vaccine with an in-network provider. CVS or Giant Pharmacy will be present at the on-campus flu shot clinics to provide vaccination to students who would like to use their health insurance.  You must schedule your appointment with the pharmacy to use your health insurance, do not schedule with Student Health.

Students should contact their health insurance provider to ensure coverage and that the pharmacy is considered in-network before getting their flu shot at one of the on-campus clinics.  Student Health cannot guarantee coverage or payment by your insurance company.

OR

$30 for students with Student Health Services. Student Health Services does not bill health insurance. Students can self-pay then submit their statement to their health insurance plan. Statements are available in the Patient Portal. Student Health cannot guarantee coverage or payment by your insurance company.

I do not have health insurance

$30 for students with Student Health Services

Residential students who do not have health insurance will be able to get their flu shot at no-cost with Student Health Services due to the mandatory flu vaccine requirement.

Where can I get a flu vaccine locally?

Use the CDC flu vaccine finder tool (https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/adults/find-vaccines.html) or contact your health insurance provider about where you can get your flu vaccine. With most health insurance plans, the flu vaccine is generally a covered service as long as you get it in-network (Dept. of Health and Human Services).

Flu vaccines are offered in many doctor’s offices, clinics, health departments, and pharmacies. Resident students (those living on campus) should ask your healthcare provider or pharmacist for a receipt of vaccination at your appointment.

Traveling to get my flu vaccine is difficult

Lyft, the ride-sharing company, is offering ride credits for people traveling to get a flu shot. Virginians can use the code VAFIGHTSFLU for rides to and from vaccination sites. Ride credits will be available until Dec. 31, 2020 and additional terms may apply. Details: https://www.vhha.com/communications/joint-statement-encouraging-virginians-to-get-a-flu-shot/
