Flu Vaccine Required for Residential Students

Flu vaccination requirement for residential students

To help protect the health and well-being of our residence hall communities, all residential students (students living on-campus/in Mason Housing) are required to get an influenza (flu) vaccine this 2020-2021 season.

The deadline to get a flu vaccination and submit proof of vaccination is Friday, December 11, 2020. Residential students must either be vaccinated at a Student Health Services clinic or provide documented proof of vaccination. Residential students received an email notification with this information on October 9, 2020.

Contact the Immunization Office at 703-993-2135 or by email at immunize@gmu.edu if you have questions about the flu vaccination requirement.

Where to get flu vaccination

Student Health Services is offering several on-campus flu shot clinics to help students become compliant. A list of upcoming clinics is available at https://shs.gmu.edu/services/flushot/.

Students can get a flu vaccine from the healthcare provider of their choice, just remember to submit proof of vaccination. Flu vaccines are offered in many doctor’s offices, clinics, health departments, and pharmacies.

Ask your healthcare provider or pharmacist for a receipt of vaccination at your appointment.

How to submit proof of flu vaccination

Take a picture or scan your receipt of vaccination. Documentation should include your name, the name of the healthcare facility and provider,  type of vaccine, and the date of vaccination. Include your G number on the document. Ask your healthcare provider or pharmacist for this documentation at your appointment.

Upload documentation to the online Patient Portal. Visit our portal information page if you need upload instructions. Select “Flu Vaccine Documentation” when uploading.

If you are vaccinated with Student Health Services or at an on-campus clinic, Student Health Services will confirm your compliance.
