Sexual Health

Regular sexual health screenings and exams help protect your health and your partners’ health.

Regular screening or testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) is important if you are sexually active because a person can have an STI and not have any symptoms. Screenings allow infections to be found and treated early. They help prevent more serious problems from developing. Student Health Services offers a variety of services to help students maintain their sexual health:

Individual Mason students can pick up FREE external (male) condoms, dental dams, and lubrication from the sexual health dispensers: At Fairfax campus in the SUB 1 Patriots Lounge, on the wall between restrooms, or in the Johnson Center first floor lobby, on the wall near blue lockers during building hours. At Mason Square campus, outside the clinic in Van Metre Hall, room B102. At SciTech campus, stop by the clinic in Colgan Hall room 229 during operating hours. RAs & RSOs should submit the Safer Sex Condom Request Form for residence halls and events.

Free menstrual products are available to students in Aunt Flow dispenser locations around Mason’s campuses.

Healthy Sexuality

The World Health Organization defines sexual health as a “state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being in relation to sexuality; it is not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction or infirmity.” The American Sexual Health Organization has great information about healthy relationships and sexuality. Whitman-Walker Clinic and the Human Rights Campaign created comprehensive resources, the Healthy Sex Guide & Safer Sex for Trans Bodies, for those who identify as transgender and their partners, both resources are available in Spanish and English.

Sexual or Interpersonal Violence

If you are a victim or survivor of sexual or interpersonal violence, you have options and there is support available. The Mason Student Support and Advocacy Center operates a 24/7 hotline (703-380-1434) or contact their office for information about your options, support and assistance. The Fairfax County 24-hour Domestic and Sexual Violence Hotline can be reached at 703-360-7273 or TTY 711.

Student Health Services can assist a survivor of sexual or interpersonal violence who may have questions about their health, provide medical care, and if the survivor wishes, connect them with resources.
