
The mission of the George Mason University Student Health Advisory Board (SHAB) is to ensure that the health and wellness of George Mason’s student body are provided for by the University to the best possible extent. To do this, the SHAB will serve as a liaison between George Mason students and the administrators of the various student wellness offices on campus, including but not limited to:
What is the purpose of SHAB?
The Student Health Advisory Board (SHAB) works with Student Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, Disability Services, and the Center for the Advancement of Well-Being. Through communication, collaboration, and partnership with these offices, SHAB aims to enhance and promote health and well-being services on campus.
What are the benefits of being a SHAB member?
Serving on the Student Health Advisory Board (SHAB) at George Mason University offers students the chance to actively contribute to the health and well-being of the university through outreach, education, and advocacy.Members of SHAB have a unique opportunity to:
- Gain a deeper understanding of how health and well-being services are provided at George Mason
- Promote student knowledge and access of these services
- Advocate for services and service delivery that best meets student needs
- Network with likeminded peers and faculty
- Gain valuable experiences to support personal, academic, and professional growth.

SHAB is currently taking applications! Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis through spring 2025. An information session about SHAB will be hosted in fall 2024 (date will be announced) and SHAB operations will begin in February 2025. If you have questions, email shab@gmu.edu.
