Enrollment Information

All J-1 visa students are required under Federal mandate to have health insurance in order to attend classes. George Mason University requires J-1 and F-1 visa status students to have health insurance coverage under University Policy #6002. Therefore, the Insurance Office will automatically enroll F-1 and J-1 visa students into the school selected health plan.

Please make sure that you have a local mailing address on your Patriot Web account. This is the address we forward to the insurance company in the beginning of the semester.

Dependents Of International Students

Dependents of International Students may only enroll in the Mason Student Health Insurance Plan if the student is also enrolled in the Plan. An international student can sign up eligible dependents online during Open Enrollment Dates. Dependents can also be enrolled in the Vital Savings Discount Program.

Covered students may enroll their lawful spouse and unmarried dependent children under the age of 26.

If a dependent of a student enrolled in the student health insurance plan is arriving in the United States after the Open Enrollment Deadline, review the information about significant life changes affecting your insurance coverage.
