Why do I need health insurance?
Unexpected medical expenses could jeopardize your health, your ability to complete your education, and your financial future. The time and financial commitment required to obtain a formal education is an invaluable investment in your future. Protect your investment and yourself by always carrying health insurance. George Mason University makes health insurance available to eligible students through a Aetna Student Health Insurance plan.
Health insurance not only protects you, but also protects others in your family, as well as those in the community. Health insurance allows individuals to seek early treatment for illness. Students without insurance tend to stay sick longer, placing their family, and the Mason community, at risk.
What if I’m covered under my parent’s insurance plan?
You might "age-off" while at Mason. If you are covered by your parents’ policy, please review it carefully to make certain you are still eligible for coverage throughout your college years.
Why should I choose the Mason Student Health Insurance Plan?
The Mason Student Health Insurance Plan has been developed especially for Mason students. The plan provides coverage for illnesses and injuries locally and when you travel either domestically or abroad.
The Mason plan is accepted by many local healthcare providers; check-out Doc-Find.
Also included in the health insurance plan is a Vision Discount Program, as well as a Dental Discount Program. A voluntary Dental Insurance Plan is available at an additional cost. Routine health exams are not covered. Check out all the details at Aetna Student Health.
How do I enroll in the Plan?
During the open enrollment dates, you can enroll online if you meet the eligibility requirements. Or you can call Aetna Student Health’s Customer Service at 1-800-878-1945. Stop by the Insurance Office if you have questions.
