Eligibility Guidelines

Domestic Students are able to enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan if they meet the eligibility criteria during Open Enrollment. A domestic student may also enroll their eligible dependents during Open Enrollment. If a student experiences a significant life change after the open enrollment period, they may be eligible to enroll in the student health insurance plan.

Once a student graduates, s/he is still covered under the Mason Student Health Insurance Plan for the remainder of the policy year.

Credit Criteria

  • Undergraduate Students are eligible to enroll if they are currently taking at least 3 credit hours.
  • Graduate Students, Master, Certificate, or Non-degree graduate students are eligible to enroll if they are currently taking at least 3 credit hours.
  • Ph.D. or Doctoral Program Students enrolled in a doctoral program are eligible to sign up.
  • Students taking less than the required credit hours, but are completing their final course work to obtain their degree for the current academic year, are also eligible to enroll.

If a student is enrolled in the Mason Student Health Insurance Plan during the fall or spring semesters, no classes are required during the summer semester to maintain plan eligibility.

Dependents of Domestic Students

Dependents of Domestic Students may only enroll in the Mason Student Health Insurance Plan if the student is also enrolled in the Mason Student Health Insurance Plan. Covered students may enroll their lawful spouse. They can also enroll unmarried dependent children under the age of 26.

Not Eligible?

These resources may be beneficial if a student is not eligible for the Mason Student Health Insurance plan or is a Mason graduate.
